Community Overview

Joplin is located in southwest Missouri at the edge of the Ozark Mountain region. During your mission trip you will be serving in the city of Joplin that was struck by a powerful EF-5 Tornado on May 22, 2011. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration the tornado left 160 dead and more than 900 injured. Hundreds of homes, along with churches and schools were completely destroyed in the wake of the tornado.

Since 2011, the community of Joplin, along with thousands of volunteers, has made remarkable strides towards physical restoration. While there is still rebuilding that needs to be done, the focus is shifting towards other needs in the community. As the city rebuilds, people are asking,how can we rebuild better?”. Othersare discovering that the tornado not only left homes and buildings destroyed, it also left families, children, and individual lives in need of deeper healing. Join Experience Mission and be a part of the ongoing revitalization in Joplin, MO. Groups of all ages are needed so we are organizing adult, college, junior high, and high school mission trips.
