Why go on a spring break mission trip?
Spring break mission trips are a great way to unplug from the daily grind of school and work. While it may seem counterintuitive to spend a school break in service, groups consistently find that a week of putting others first and refocusing on faith is exactly the rest and unplugging from school students need. Whether you are planning your "alternative spring break" alternative spring break or bringing a team of middle school or high school students, the communities below represent EM's best spring break options for 2027.
How many people can go, and what does it cost?
Minimum group size and cost vary by community. As a general guideline, most EM communities require a minimum team of 6 to 10 people, with at least one team member age 21 or older to serve as Team Leader, and most locations can accommodate groups up to 40 or 50 people. Catadupa, Jamaica: Hurricane Rebuilding & Recovery
In October 2025, Jamaica was devastated by Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm that tied for the strongest hurricane on record to make landfall in the Atlantic Basin, with sustained winds of 185 mph. The damage across western Jamaica was catastrophic, and recovery is expected to continue for years.
EM's longtime ministry partner in Jamaica is Christian Fellowship Church, led by EM Jamaica Coordinator Pastor Leroy Gordon, who oversees a network of churches across the island. EM teams primarily serve alongside the two church communities Pastor Gordon leads directly in Catadupa and Cambridge. Groups serving in 2027 will get involved wherever their skills are needed most, with opportunities to help repair homes, roads, and water pipes to the local spring, and to rebuild or re-roof structures at the marketplace, local church, chicken farm, and church daycare facility. The need is still great, and children's programming for local kids remains part of nearly every trip.

Belize: Partner with the Family of God Church network
EM mission trips to Belize connect your group with Pastor Nelzon Guillen and the Family of God Church network, which links Spanish-speaking congregations across the country. Whether you bring a youth group, college students, a family, or a group of adults, spring mission trips to Belize give you the chance to partner with local church leaders on building projects while reaching local kids through Kids Club programs.
One detail worth planning around: due to staffing limitations and varying school schedules, Kids Club and Evening Gathering are not offered on Belize trips during the spring break season. Teams traveling January through May should plan to do their own team worship and debriefing, with devotional materials provided by EM, and come prepared to spend casual free time with local children instead of structured programming.

Rincon, Puerto Rico: Home repair and local outreach
Puerto Rico has weathered crisis after crisis from natural disasters, but the people here are resilient and look out for each other. EM's local partner is The Family Church in Rincon, led by Pastor Jose Garcia, a bilingual congregation focused on worship, discipleship, and outreach into the surrounding community.
Puerto Rico trips are available throughout spring and summer, which makes this community a natural fit for spring break mission trips. Work projects include home repairs for elderly residents living in small cement homes, hands-on food production, and meal delivery, along with outreach opportunities like beachside prayer gatherings and beach clean-up.

Chicago, Illinois: Urban service-learning
Come to Chicago and move toward a deeper understanding of the challenges present in the Midwest's largest city. EM partners with Sunshine Gospel Ministries, an organization that has served Chicago's South Side for over 100 years through discipleship, mercy, and justice ministries, and their BridgeBuilders program.
Many people living in suburban and rural communities hear mostly negative portrayals of inner-city life, which contribute to unhelpful labeling and misguided assumptions. This trip is designed to reveal the giftedness of the community through a locally staffed, locally voiced experience that combines service, learning, and honest conversation, including guided discussions on reconciliation and inequity.

Navajo Nation, Arizona: Cross-cultural service in the high desert
In the Diné (Navajo) Nation of Arizona, your team will partner with Pastor JR Wilson Jr. and House of Joy Church on Black Mesa, a congregation EM has walked alongside since 2009. Teams work with Pastor JR and his community on home and church repair projects, while taking time to slow down, build relationships, and learn from the Diné people in a setting unlike anywhere else your team has served. Spring mission trips to this community are available for teams of 20 or more people.

Newport, Tennessee: Partnering with local ministries in Appalachia
Newport is a rural Appalachian community in Cocke County that was hit hard by Hurricane Helene in 2024. That season of hurricane relief work opened the door for EM to begin partnering with local ministries already serving this underserved community, long before the storm and long after the headlines faded. Teams serving in Newport this spring will join efforts already underway with local organizations, including: Breadbasket (food distribution for local families and children), Feed My Sheep (prepare and serve meals), Options Pregnancy Center (sort donations, clean, and potentially lead a day camp), Isaiah 117 House (prep and support kids before overnight stays), and Cornerstone Baptist Church Ministries (providing free essentials for people in need).

Marble Falls, Texas: Rebuilding and long-term partnership in the Hill Country
In Burnet County, your team will partner with the Ark of Highland Lakes, a network of 44 churches providing food assistance, housing support, and foster care outreach across the Highland Lakes region. Marble Falls continues to experience the effects of disastrous flooding in July 2025, and EM has partnered with the Ark since the early rebuilding effort to support the community's long-term thriving. Spring teams can expect a mix of community events and outreach, warehouse support and donation distribution, and small building projects, depending on the current needs of the community.

Spring Break Mission Trip FAQs
How far in advance should we register for a spring break trip?
Spring break dates fill on a first-come, first-served basis, and popular weeks can fill months ahead. Register and pay your deposit as soon as your group has committed to a community.
Do all locations offer the same activities during spring break?
No. Mission trips are slightly different in each community, and some communities scale back certain programming, such as Kids Club in Belize, during spring break due to staffing and school-calendar limitations in the community itself. Always confirm what is included for your specific trip with your EM support contact.
What if our group is smaller than the posted minimum?
Smaller teams may be able to join an already-registered group at some communities. Contact EM support staff to ask about small team options for your preferred community.
