Serve together on a midwest mission trip to Kansas City

Kansas City spans two states and brings together urban neighborhoods, suburbs, and surrounding communities, each with its own strengths and challenges. Many individuals and families face economic hardship, housing instability, and limited access to resources, including families supporting children and adults with disabilities.

Local Partners

VIVE Culture Church
VIVE Culture Church is a non-denominational church in Kansas City, Missouri, planted in 2018. The congregation is a multi-ethnic, inter-generational, mission-shaped community focused on making disciples of Jesus. The name VIVE means "to live," reflecting the church's belief that people come fully alive through Christ.

Serving beyond the church walls is central to that mission. Through VIVE Outreach, the church meets practical needs, builds relationships, and shares its faith through local and global partnerships, mission trips, and hands-on service throughout the year. Locally, that includes serving meals to neighbors experiencing homelessness, packing holiday meal boxes for families, and providing Christmas gifts for children. Twice a year, the church's I Love My City service day brings the congregation together with more than 20 organizations for a citywide day of service.

Their outreach efforts also include hosting mission trip teams from around the country through Experience Mission, introducing volunteers to local ministries and organizations serving their community year-round in Kansas City.

Activities & Opportunities

Service/Outreach Ministry

This is a highly relational trip with many opportunities for engagement. Teams going to Kansas City will partner with VIVE Culture Church and have opportunities to serve alongside local ministries and organizations that are working to meet practical needs and strengthen their communities. Depending on the needs of local partners and the timing of the trip, teams may assist with hands-on service projects, support programs for children and families, participate in community outreach, or help with projects that improve the spaces and resources used by local organizations.

What is the mission and hope of EM's local ministry partners serving in their community?

The local organizations and ministries serving Kansas City share a commitment to strengthening individuals, families, and communities through practical support, meaningful relationships, and opportunities for people to thrive.

The hope is to build a community where people are not defined by their circumstances, families have access to support, children have opportunities to flourish, and every individual is treated with dignity and care. Mission teams will be invited to support these efforts by serving in partnership with local leaders and contributing to the work already taking place.

Typical Schedule

Each morning, there is time set aside for devotions and quiet time. This is a valuable time and we strongly encourage everyone to spend it with God journaling their thoughts and experiences as the days unfold. EM will provide a physical or printable devotional journal.

Our staff will lead a time of debriefing and a short devotional in the evening (what we call "Evening Gathering") and it is always a great addition to have musical worship. Our programming does not include musical worship as we can't guarantee that our our staff will have this ability. Please let us know if you have anyone who sings or plays guitar on your trip so that we can help to coordinate the musical aspect of worship when able. If teams aren't able to help in the area of music, it may not be a part of the trip.

Each day, there will be a varying schedule of work and outreach.
