In mid-February, severe historic flooding affected multiple states and communities in the Appalachian region.
Among them is the Experience Mission partner community of Pikeville, Kentucky.
Scot Robinson, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Pikeville and one of EM's local community partners, sent along this message for any groups who may consider coming to help their community this summer:
“Eastern Kentucky experienced historic flooding in the summer of 2022. At that same time, Experience Mission teams were being hosted in Pikeville, KY at First Presbyterian Church. Within hours the team shifted their plans and began helping with flood recovery work in surrounding communities. That recovery work from the 2022 floods has continued since and each summer Experience Mission has been an incredible part of the story of healing, resilience, and God’s love that has shone within this community that was reeling after disaster.
Sadly, on February 15th more historic flooding hit our area. This time hitting Pikeville along with many areas that were still recovering from 2022. We covet your prayers for healing again and ask that you consider bringing your team to Pikeville to serve our community as we seek to begin recovering again. Every team that has come to Pikeville in the past has been an embodiment of Christ’s love to our community and a reminder that new beginnings are possible. We need that presence and work now more than ever.”
If you haven't made any summer mission trip plans yet, we are inviting you to join us and many others in the rebuilding and recovery of Pikeville and surrounding counties. Many people lost everything in 2022, and have been hit once again with a major loss. Most initial flood relief will be completed come summer, but there is a long way to go to get to full recovery. Support and serve alongside local organizations who are already playing a crucial role in the immediate recovery efforts. Your presence will let them know that they are not forgotten, and that God sees and cares for them.
