My Story

It's hard to summarize everything God has done in my life and the way He has shaped me these past few years. I've grown up in church and started AHG (American Heritage Girls) when I was a first-year pioneer, so it feels like I've always been around Christians and learned about Jesus. Growing up, I heard the testimonies of so many Christians and was amazed and often jealous of how interesting their stories were. Mine in comparison seemed dull. Growing up in the church, I couldn't remember one specific time when I had chosen to give my life to Jesus, only that I had and I had been baptized. I struggled with feeling like I was somehow less of a Christian because I didn't have a super flashy “look what God has done for me” kind of story. But as I prayed about it and brought it up with one of my best friends who was also a Christian I learned that not only did God love me despite my story being “less interesting”, but I began to see things from a new perspective. God doesn't see things the way we see them. There are not 'big miracles' and 'small miracles', only miracles. And every life saved by Jesus is a miracle. Every breath we take and every friend we make and every time it rains is a miracle. Because God designed everything so beautifully and He has a plan for everyone. Just because my testimony is different from some doesn't mean God's plans are any less amazing plans for my life.
I have seen the ways God has been working in my life, teaching me lessons in how to care for other people and have His peace and grow closer to Him by praying often and becoming better at communicating and sharing His love with others. I've gotten braver about standing up for my faith and I've built strong friendships with other Christian girls.
My faith has influenced the stories I write and I hope to someday become a published author so I can share the truth and love of Jesus with other people in one of the main ways I was touched, through stories. Because of my love of Jesus and books, I decided to build a Christian library for my stars and stripes project. I wanted to give other people access to books that held truth and hope. I know God will use the books from my project to plant seeds of faith in the hearts of many, just as he has in my own life through stories like The Wingfeather Saga, Space Boy, and The Chronicles of Narnia.
This next year I am going on a Christian gap year missionary trip to South Africa and the Caribbean, and I couldn't be more excited about it. I can't wait to be a part of what God is doing over there, and I am working hard to make myself ready by reminding myself that anywhere I am is my mission field.
For most of my teenage years, my favorite bible verse has been Esther 4:14, “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” I like this verse because Esther's story is one where God is more subtle than most of the other bible stories. He doesn't part the red sea or multiply bread or send an angel army to fight, and yet His mercy is evident in Esther's story. God saves her and her people, and the entire time we can see how God had a rescue plan even if it was hidden from Esther for a while. I'm sure she would have had a lot of questions about why God was letting her be taken, made queen, and put in such a high and dangerous position. And yet all along, God knew what He was doing and He used her. Like Esther, God has created me “for such a time as this”, and I know that wherever God leads me in the future, however good or bad I think it is, it's all under His control and He will make it good in His time so I don't have to worry.
