My Story

About 5 years ago my pastor gave the group a task to read a book which changed my life. It spoke about an incredible journey of a young woman who let her heart be guided by God and went on a mission trip to Africa. After I read this book my heart was filled with desire to go out and share the love of Christ . I thought they were strong emotions and a simple rush of adrenaline. After a while I pushed those feelings down thinking I was crazy for wanting to do something like this young woman because I was going to school, doing ministry and working full time. It seemed illogical to drop all I had to go on a mission trip. Several months passed by and the feelings of wanting to go on a mission trip resurfaced. I was confused at first as to why these feelings surfaced and my desire to do something out of my comfort zone but, one day after a conversation with my best friend I realized that those emotions weren’t simple emotions but rather a calling from God that I was ignoring for a long time. The more I spoke to my friend the more this desire made me take small steps of faith. I started to listen to God's voice and during my time with God, he spoke to me about faith, letting go of all things to fulfill his calling and being bold. So the journey began with small steps of faith. Step one was to actually present my crazy dream to God and ask if it was within his will and not simple emotions.. Step two, tell my parents- which at first they thought I was crazy because a mission trip to Africa was something unheard of in my house and only people in movies do mission trips. The final step was to apply to an agency which took me quite some time to choose. After I had a couple of long nights talking to God about this dream he made things possible and the doors started to open and everything started to align perfectly. After the January conference in Bogota I got the green light from my pastors, all I needed was my parents' blessing. I wanted to go but only if my parents felt peace. After I came home from the January conference my parents spoke to me. God had given them a word of assurance and they felt peace in their hearts to let me go. I’m happy to know I have the opportunity to share the love of Christ through serving others and can't wait to embark in this new journey.
