Choice builds voice. Voice builds leadership.

About Khayari

Khayari is a Palestinian women-led nonprofit based in Bethlehem. We build supportive communities with young Palestinian women, creating spaces grounded in trust, belonging, participation, and respect.

Through practical learning, relationships, and continued support, women strengthen and exercise their leadership, agency, knowledge, and professional capacities across their personal, social, civic, and professional lives.

Our vision is a resilient community of Palestinian women who lead, make informed choices, and contribute to more just communities.

Building Pathways for Leadership and Participation

Khayari began with a commitment to create spaces where Palestinian women could learn, connect, make choices, and strengthen their voice. Since then, that work has grown into a wider pathway that connects structured learning with community, professional development, contribution, and continued participation.

Training remains an important entry point, but the relationship does not end when a program finishes. Women have returned as volunteers, program contributors, peer supporters, and speakers. Participants have also moved into paid contribution roles and represented their perspectives in international learning spaces.

Across seven training cohorts and other programs and activities, Khayari has directly engaged around 100 young Palestinian women.

Our programs bring together areas that women experience together in everyday life: identity, leadership, communication, workplace rights, conflict understanding, advocacy, professional preparation, cultural expression, and community participation.

What Khayari Looks Like in Practice

Lead Forward | نقطة انطلاق

Lead Forward is Khayari’s core learning pathway. It brings together identity, leadership, rights, communication, conflict analysis, advocacy, professional preparation, and Palestinian cultural expression through practical and participatory learning.

Women do more than discuss these topics. They practice communication, analyze situations, develop professional materials, engage in debate and advocacy exercises, explore Palestinian cultural practices, and reflect together on the choices and realities shaping their lives.

Khayari Community

Khayari is building stronger ways for women to remain connected after training through alumnae relationships, mentoring, volunteering, peer contribution, Give Back opportunities, and future leadership roles.

This allows participation to grow beyond a single program cycle and creates opportunities for women to contribute their own knowledge and experience to the community.

Professional Pathways

Professional preparation is woven throughout Khayari’s work. Participants develop skills in areas such as CV writing, professional communication, interviews, workplace rights, and relationship-building.

Khayari is also developing mentorship, internship, placement, and professional pathways that connect learning with women’s career choices and economic opportunities.

Partnerships and Exchange

Khayari works with universities, Palestinian civil-society organizations, specialist trainers, and international partners to widen access to knowledge, relationships, learning spaces, and opportunities.

These relationships are designed around reciprocal learning and Palestinian leadership. Khayari participants enter exchange spaces as speakers, knowledge-holders, and contributors whose experiences and perspectives have value in their own right.

What Women Are Telling Us

Khayari’s strongest recurring finding is the importance women place on trust, safety, belonging, and meaningful participation.

Across comparable final evaluations, participants rated safe space and connection an average of 4.71 out of 5.

In Khayari’s 2025 end-of-cycle feedback:

100% of 27 respondents rated safe space and belonging 4 or 5 out of 5.

93% rated their confidence after the program 4 or 5 out of 5.

63% reported that they were already applying something they had learned through Khayari in their daily life, studies, or work.

Women are also moving from participation into contribution. Alumnae have returned to support later activities, participants have taken on paid support roles, and former participants have represented their perspectives as paid speakers in international learning spaces.

Choice, Identity, and Agency

Khayari means “my choice” in Arabic.

The name reflects how we understand our role. Palestinian women already carry knowledge, capacities, identities, aspirations, and agency. Khayari creates pathways, relationships, and spaces where women can exercise that agency, strengthen their voice, develop practical knowledge, and participate more fully in professional and community life.

Palestinian identity is part of this work. Cultural practices such as tatreez, Palestinian embroidery, and dabke create spaces for memory, expression, connection, and reflection on belonging.

Khayari’s approach grows from the realities of Palestinian women themselves and continues to develop through participant feedback, relationships, and shared learning.

Participant Voices

“Speaking in front of a group was a major milestone for me, as I had never shared my ideas with others before.”
Shoruq

“I ran a youth meeting. I gave a lecture. I used Khayari material to train others.”
Dana

These experiences reflect what Khayari hopes to build: women carrying learning beyond the training space, using their voice, making choices, and contributing their knowledge to others.

Khayari and Experience Mission

Experience Mission serves as Khayari’s U.S. charitable giving partner, providing a tax-deductible donation pathway for supporters in the United States and helping Khayari build relationships with individuals and communities interested in supporting its work.

Khayari leads its programs, priorities, participant relationships, partnerships, and organizational direction from Palestine. Experience Mission supports that locally led work through fundraising infrastructure, relationships, and opportunities for reciprocal learning and connection.

The partnership has also created opportunities for Khayari to engage communities in the United States directly. Through speaking engagements, conversations, fundraising, and relationship-building, Khayari has been able to share its work and bring Palestinian women’s perspectives into international spaces in their own voices.

Both organizations value relationships built through listening, respect, trust, and long-term connection.

GENERAL SUPPORT
Your support provides flexible funding that helps Khayari sustain its programs, community, staff, partnerships, and organizational foundations while keeping participation free for Palestinian women. Flexible support allows Khayari to respond to emerging needs, strengthen leadership and professional pathways, and create opportunities for women to continue learning, connecting, and contributing beyond a single training cycle.

Oman Cultural & Religious Exchange | November 2026
Originally planned for March 2026, Khayari's first cultural and religious exchange to Oman was postponed because of the regional war. The exchange is now planned for November 2026. For many of the women participating, this will be their first opportunity to travel beyond Palestine. The program will create space for dialogue, cultural exchange, faith-rooted connection, and reciprocal learning with communities in Oman. Participants will enter the exchange as Palestinian women, speakers, knowledge-holders, and contributors. They will share their experiences, identity, and perspectives while learning from the people and communities they meet. Support for the exchange will help cover travel, accommodation, local transportation, program activities, and other participation costs so that financial barriers do not determine who can take part. This exchange is part of Khayari's wider commitment to expanding opportunities for Palestinian women to learn, connect, contribute, and participate in international spaces. Learn More
