The Story
Tent Revivals are a common happening from early spring to late fall all across the Navajo Nation. It is not unusual to see a large tent tucked between the hills in the distance with a sign by the road that says "Tent Revival" or "Camp Meeting". These gatherings serve an important role for the Navajo tribe. They are also a significant part of Pastor JR Wilson's extended ministry to the Navajo people. As the pastor of House of Joy church, Pastor JR has dedicated himself to reaching out to his neighbors and surrounding communities in both Arizona and New Mexico nearly every week from May through October for many years. His tent revivals gather people together for encouragement in their faith walk and provide space for community fellowship and connection. They are often the place where people living too far from a local church can come and hear the hope and good news of the gospel, some for the very first time.
There are many practical needs surrounding the ongoing work of this tent revival ministry. Among these needs are transportation costs, meals on the road, and wages for local youth who help with setup and tear down of the large tent each week. Whether maintaining the tent and sound equipment or simply providing materials for people to grow more deeply in their faith, Pastor JR is committed to reaching people in every corner of the remote Navajo land but the success of it all depends upon the generosity of those willing to invest in this ministry.
We are seeking to raise a $4000 that will serve to support the ongoing work of the tent revival ministry. Would you or your church missions board prayerfully consider making this ministry a part of your regular giving?
