The rain is just so . . . relaxing. As I am typing this, the pitter-patter of the rain on the roof has left me and my host family in a calm daze. Some are quietly working, while others are being soothed by the rain as they rest and dream. Drip. Drop. Drip. Drop.
It’s crazy to think that I have only been in Costa Rica for two full days. It seems like a lot more than that. I’ve only been with my host family for a couple of hours, so I am only at the beginning stages of this trip. I know I have a lot more to learn and a lot more to experience.
Something that surprises me, though, is how much I have mellowed from my other travel experiences. Visiting the city and museums yesterday with my teammates was not as thrilling and as exuberant as I thought it would be. In a way, it may be because I’m lacking in excitement of what’s different here in Costa Rica. Or, maybe, I’m finally getting it.
No matter where we are, deep down we are all the same. We are all in desperate need of love and purpose.
I’m coming off the high of the travel bug, and I’m glad. I’m realizing that there’s more to life than just crazy adventures, that I don’t have it all right, and that I am not at the center of the universe. But, whether I am at home or traveling, I can impact the people around me by the way I care, by the way I love. Lord, help me with this grandiose task that I could never do on my own!
As I listen to the pitter-patter of the rain, not only is God showering me with this beautiful noise, He also is showering me with many blessings here. I have a great host family that I’m excited to get to know. I have fun teammates that I hope to continue to grow in relationship with. I am blessed to be able to go to a language school and further my Spanish. I may only be starting my journey here, but I know that this journey of learning how to love no matter where I am has been something that the Lord has been teaching me for a long time.
God, give me the opportunity wherever I go, whether I be in Costa Rica, my home in PA, or the middle-of-nowhere, to help others be able to experience the cool rest that Your showers of blessings may bring.
