My Story

Hi I'm Amelia!!!

My whole life I wanted to work in the fashion industry. It was my greatest passion. I was obsessed with creativity. I knew for sure since I was 7 years old that my future career would be to work for some kind of fancy designer in New York City. This is the dream that I depended on.

My freshman year I was introduced to my very first mission trip to Norristown, PA. It was incredible. I learned what it meant to serve others and how that can transform my soul into who God wants me to be. I continued to go on mission trips in the summers and became very involved with my youth group. I was also a part of my Church's youth board and was constantly doing activities for it.

The summer before my Junior year, we moved to Pittsburgh, PA from my very beloved home in Virginia. This was extremely hard on me, but I knew that it was the right thing to do. We moved to support my Mom's non-profit called Ad Gentes Mission. They facilitate student led missions to countries all over the world! Missionary work is truly in the blood!

The last two years of high school have been extremely difficult. I learned that focusing on the future was key to overcoming the difficulties that I was experiencing. In September 2019, my manager at work invited me to travel to Haiti with her for a week. She started a direct trade coffee business that imports coffee from Haiti to the U.S. while also positively impacting the little village of Thiotte and the surrounding community. I experienced the life and culture of Haiti and learned all about how the coffee industry works. I had the amazing opportunity to play with the kids. I love kids more than anything in the world!! This trip was so life-changing. It really did give me a whole new perspective on life and what I wanted my future to look like.

On the way back from Haiti I had an incredible idea. I realized that there was a way I could intertwine my dream of working in the fashion industry with my passion for helping others. I decided that my new dream is to create a fair trade clothing line that supports people in third world countries.

Establishing a fair trade clothing business doesn't necessarily require a college education exactly. This has lead me to pray a lot and contemplate whether or not attending university after I graduate is the right path for me. I have been admitted to nine colleges and have enrolled at Kent State for Fall of 2020! This seemed like the perfect plan and my dream of starting my company could unfold over the course of my college studies.

I had still been thinking a lot about deferring college and that is just what I will be doing! I found out about Immersion online and realized that this is what I am called to do before college begins. I will be traveling to Costa Rica for three months in the Fall and then back home for a two month break. After this break I will spend six months in Lesotho, Namibia, and South Africa. I hope to grow in my relationship with God through this and learn who I am supposed to be. God is amazing. I cannot wait to see Him in every single person I encounter throughout this journey!

Thank you to each and every one of you who have read this. It means the absolute world to me. I ask for your prayers for my team as we travel to far off lands as well as any spare change you have to help me on my upcoming adventure!

You are all in my prayers as well especially as this pandemic is occurring.

God bless,

Amelia
