My Story
I am a member of the Terra Sancta Scout Troop, as well as a member of our local YMCA. I serve as a leader of the Youth Hub, where I organize and run youth activities. This allows space for the youth to express themselves in a safe place where they can be empowered to grow and become active citizens and leaders in their community. I am also assisting with Experience Mission’s Holy Land IMMERSION program, which is taking place currently here in Bethlehem.
These opportunities to participate in and serve as a leader with both the scouts and the YMCA have allowed me the opportunities to grow and learn within my local context. As I’ve learned more about what Experience Mission is doing around the world, I was drawn to the opportunity to serve through IMMERSION in a context very different than my own. As a Palestinian Christian, I would love to make connections with other believers around the world, because Christians in the Middle East are few.
I have been accepted to EM’s 1 month Cuba IMMERSION, and I am looking forward to learning and experiencing life in Cuba. I consider this an amazing opportunity, as it is often very difficult for Palestinians to travel, even within Palestine. I am eager to engage with the local Cuban community that I will be living among, and soaking in the experience alongside my team. Our team will be assisting in the community through volunteer work, and I will be living with a local host family to truly immerse into the culture.
As the trip draws near and I prepare to go, I am asking for your help to make this opportunity a reality. My travel expenses, visa application and program fees will amount to $5000. This $5000 will include all of my travel expenses, food, accommodation from the start of the trip until I return back to Palestine. (May 20-June 20, 2019)
