About the Student
When Sony was 14 years old his mother became very ill so he dropped out of school to work. When the earthquake of 2010 struck Haiti a couple of years later his home was destroyed, and he was subsequently separated from his mother with whom he was very close. She had to move in with a friend who was able to care for her, and Sony who is a devoted Christian moved in with the pastor of his local church. It's now been nearly 10 years since he dropped out of school, but he never gave up on the hope of achieving an education, and this scholarship will enable his dream of returning to school to come true.
