David was born in Petionville where he lived with his mother, 4 brothers and 5 sisters. His mother was laid off from her job, and now her only source of income is the small amount of food she cooks and sells on the street. It is very hard for her to support all of her children, so David went to live with his aunt and cousins in Carrefour. His aunt provides him with food and housing, but she can’t afford to send him to school, so this scholarship will enable him to complete his sophomore year of high school. David is excited to continue his education, and he would like to study electrical engineering after he graduates. When he’s not in class David helps his Aunt around the house, and he likes to spend his free time hanging out with his cousins and friends in the neighborhood.

Why Education Matters
Education empowers. EM's Education Scholarships help provide necessary education and mentorship for teenagers and young adults who need a "hand up" towards a better life that presents opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.
