Sonson lives in a small Carrefour shanty with his mother and 2 younger brothers. His father is looking for work in the Dominican Republic, but since he’s been unsuccessful the family is in dire need. Sonson feels an immense burden to help provide for his family, so he has diligently pursued his education. It was a financial struggle to make it through high school, and now he strongly desires to attend college in Port-Au-Prince. With a college degree, Sonson could find work and change his family’s life for the better. Sonson is a hard working young man who is very committed to his faith, so this scholarship will be much deserved.

After wanting to attend college ever since his graduation from high school a couple years ago, it didn't seem possible until you generously donated. Sonson told me this in a message, "that's a privilege praise god name for that." I'm excited to see what the future holds for him.

Why Education Matters
Education empowers. EM's Education Scholarships help provide necessary education and mentorship for teenagers and young adults who need a "hand up" towards a better life that presents opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.
